Breaking Through by Robert C. Jennings

Sullen and restless, my spirit
slogs about in deep midwinter blues.
Late morning flurries slowly taper, then
sunlight, breaking through clouds, momentarily
sets falling flakes afire.
A thousand diamonds sparkle and float,
Each jewel a kaleidoscope of color,
lit up for me, for all the world to see,
in that enchanted moment,
endless possibilities emerge.
“Look, quickly, before it disappears!”
Clouds close in again.
Now only falling snow,
muted sounds and shades,
white on black once more.
