Released by Denise Buschmann

Thwarted, mangled, maimed
—no longer your gentle self—
thrown into the fire
of helplessness.

You grappled with falls
& negative thoughts
& couldn’t
divert them.

It was painful
to hear
the unfiltered words
you’d spew.

But, most of all,
it was painful for you.
How must it feel to forget
the child you birthed?

Yet, love you still
we did, and do.
Thank God …
you are at rest.

Can we be sad and glad at the same time? It is perplexing. We want them out of
their pain. We want the old them back but will never get them back, completely,
though glimpses appear from time to time until they don’t. RIP ML.
