Interview with Ailsa Abraham

What name do you write under?
Ailsa Abraham

Is this your given name?
Used to be – my French name is Elise.

If you use a pen name why?
Did use my twin brother’s name when writing gay romance as many readers don’t feel women should be
homo-erotic. Cameron Lawton is nicely gender non-specific.

Which country do you live in?

What made you want to write and were you inspired by anyone?
I have written all my life, just had to from the time I re-wrote the endings of school books. Inspired by
everyone I’ve read from Beatrix Potter through Kipling to Pratchett

What encouragement did you have, and have you taken any courses in writing?
My friends told me I HAD TO be published but apart from a degree in English I haven’t done any courses

What genre do you write?
Any I can. Love mixing them up . My published books have been romance/witchraft and gay romance
plus any number of short stories in anthologies. Love doing shorties!

What was your first publication?
Poetry in the school magazine.

Did you self-publish or use a publishing house?
Am published by Crooked Cat Books but have selfied and will do again.

How long does it take you to write a book?
Anything from 3 months to 6 years

How do you get over writer’s block?
I don’t have it. My brain is constantly writing, it’s my health that gives out.

Did you give up the day job to be able to write?
In a way – I was declared disabled which gave me more time to write.

Will you ever retire from writing?
No – even if I stop publishing I shall write for my friends.

How can we buy your books?

How did you find out about The Writers Newsletter and has it been of interest to you?
One of my publishing colleagues and yes, I love it
