The poems range in length from couplet and haiku to several pages, incorporating nature, Taoism, Buddhism, Western ideas of God and gods, ecology, social, and spiritual images. Aesthetics include the use of formal verse, free verse, white space, internal rhyme, assonance, consonance, alliteration, allusion, purposeful ambiguity, and a bit of surrealism. The Afterword comprises five pages of discussing poetics with some insight for a writer's voice and the reader's response, some clarification in the relationship between readers, writers, and poems, some illumination on writer's preparation, purpose, and the writing process, and a few words melding the genesis of poems in cultural settings.
