Window’s View by Karen Fried

Flat landscapes slide by wide windows

Blue skies draped with white streaks

Spinning windmills pumping power

Leafy green trees frame farmland

Crops cover miles of earth

The vibrating bus rolls on and on

Myriad of people flank the bus in rows

Snippets of conversation coalesce into one

Silence settles in as we move further along

Green and blue signs wiz by

How many more miles?

We pass small towns in the distance

Lives being lived unseen

Hanging pieces of broken barn hover

like people taking their last breath

Billboards enticing us with their wares

Connections made only to be lost

Breath and time shared in that space

as we roll along

until our journey jolts, or sails us

to our final destination
