Over The Edge New Writer of The Year
Closing date: 9th August 2017.
Prizes: €1,000 in cash prizes (€300 each for wining poet and short story writer, €400 for the overall winner), publication for winning poet, plus readings at Over the Edge.
Entry fee: €10, €7.50 for each of multiple entries.
Looking for: Poetry (three poems of up to 40 lines or one of 100 lines); short stories, up to 3,000 words.

The Val Wood Prize 2017: Freedom in Hull
Closing date: 19th August 2017.
Prizes: Winner £200; Runner up £50 & £25.
Entry fee: Free.
Theme: Freedom in Hull.
Looking for: Stories need to keep to the theme of ‘Freedom in Hull’ but can be on any subject. Maximum word count is 2017.

The Willesden Herald New Short Stories Competition 2017
Closing date: 31st August 2017.
Prizes: The prize fund of £1200 will be divided among the ten finalists as follows: 1st Prize: The one-off Willesden Herald mug inscribed “Willesden Short Story Prize 2017” + £300; Runner-up: £200; £75 to each of the remaining eight short-listed. All ten shortlisted stories will be published in “Willesden Herald: New Short Stories 10”. Two copies go to each of the ten shortlisted contributors.
Entry Fee: £7.50.
Word limit: 7500.
